There are many clinics claiming to be able to
restore hair. Clearly, there are some individuals
who are not going to be able to attain a full head of hair.
Remember that to a large degree, it
is just as important what you are willing to settle for as it is what
others perceive as adequate
hair replacement. In time, I hope to review and visit all of the
local hair transplantation clinics
and to publish my impressions of them and their work. Most have
outreach clinics with their surgery being done in another city.
A local option for a doctor who does good work is Dr Ross who is
in Tigard
She is board certified and has had favorable reviews from my patients.

Thus far, I have seen work from Dr. Hasson and Dr.
Wong. The individual had black hair and had a good outcome
from my viewpoint. She had required two sessions at a cost of
about $3.50 a graft. My impression is that the cost is variable
depending on the number of grafts and the ability
to negotiate. They do use a staggered implant line which avoids
the cornrow appearance. They
evaluate in Portland but do their surgery in Vancouver, B.C.
In meeting with Michael of Hasson and Wong, he
tells me that they charge (as of 4/25/2003)
$4.50 a graft for the first 1500 grafts and $2.50 thereafter. The
average number of grafts required are
between about 1500 to 6000 depending on the area. Women need a
higher number of grafts to look good
unlike men. Men need about 15-20 grafts per cm. hair to look
good. Women need about 30-45 per cm.
Hair thickness and donor site will determine the available number of
grafts. The size of the bald area in
centimeters (cm.) will determine the number of grafts. they can do
1500 to 4000 grafts per session.
